RIMSKY-KORSAKOV: Scheherazade, Op. 35
SHOSTAKOVICH: Symphony No. 5 in D minor, Op. 47
The third concert of the Autum 2025 Season will feature the Symphony Orchestra of India perform under the baton of Martyn Brabbins, Chief Conductor of the Malmö Symphony Orchestra. Inspired by the tales of One Thousand and One Nights, Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade, Op.35 one of the most beloved showpieces of the Romantic repertoire, is a lush, colourful orchestral suite that paints vivid scenes of exotic adventure and romance. Shostakovich’s Symphony No.5 written under intense political pressure during Stalin’s regime, is a powerful blend of personal expression and public statement, reflecting both suffering and resilience, making it one of the most enduring and deeply moving works of the 20th century.
