In this captivating recital, acclaimed pianist Konstantin Scherbakov offers a rich and deeply expressive journey through the heart of the piano repertoire. The program opens with Busoni’s monumental transcription of J.S. Bach’s Chaconne from the Partita No. 2 in D minor, a powerful reimagining that retains the work’s spiritual intensity while expanding its emotional and pianistic range. Scherbakov then delves into Schubert’s Sonata No. 19 in C minor, D. 958, a late masterwork that balances Classical form with Romantic introspection and stormy pathos. The second half celebrates the poetic soul of Chopin, beginning with the nuanced dances of the Three Mazurkas, Op. 59, followed by the narrative brilliance of the Ballade No. 3 in A-flat Major, and the lyrical intimacy of the Nocturnes, Op. 9. The evening concludes in dazzling fashion with the elegant Andante spianato et Grande Polonaise brillante in E-flat Major, a virtuosic showcase of grace and grandeur.
